Training and Growth: Bougainvilleas and Parole

Parole is no accident. It is a privilege that is the outcome of responding to incarceration by committing to use one’s time in TDCJ to learn, grow, and be prepared to successfully and safely reintegrate into society. TDCJ has many programs, courses, and vocational training to help our clients earn parole.

In August, I planted a bougainvillea in a pot by a stone wall. I gave it sun, water, food, pruning, and training. Just three months later, that same plant has thrived and grown with colors I didn’t expect. If you’re wondering what a flowering vine has to do with earning parole, keep reading.
